Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas have officially called it quits after less than one year together, Us Weekly can confirm.
“Tom and Ana are done for now,” a source exclusively tells Us. “It was more Ana’s decision because things were moving fast and she started to get a little uncomfortable with how fast it was going.”
While de Armas, 37, “put the brakes on it,” the insider shares, “She still likes him a lot, and they have a connection. They will see how things go in the future.”
In addition to her relationship with Cruise, 63, moving quickly, the Ballerina star has been “busy” with work, including “a new project,” according to the source.
“They want to remain friends, but she needed to take a step back,” the insider adds.
The source tells Us that the now-exes had “totally undeniable” chemistry while gearing up to shoot their supernatural thriller Deeper, which is now on a production hold.
“They spent every day together in preparation and training for the intense underwater sequences,” the insider explains. “It started as a deep professional respect and then it ignited. Tom was completely captivated by Ana.”
As for de Armas, the source says, “On a personal level, she enjoyed his company, and he was fun to be with. One of the things that attracted her most to him was he supported her and everything she wanted to do.”
Us Weekly has reached out to reps for Cruise and de Armas for comment.
The Mission: Impossible star and the actress were first spotted spending time together in London in February. After having dinner in the Soho area during Valentine’s Day weekend, the pair carried takeout bags, posed for photos with fans and then left in a car together.
The following month, Cruise and de Armas were seen arriving via helicopter at the London Heliport.
The duo continued their public hangouts in April when Cruise flew de Armas in a copter in London one day before her 37th birthday. She was spotted exiting the aircraft with her two dogs, while he stepped out from the pilot’s seat.
As dating rumors swirled, a source cleared up any confusion about the nature of Cruise and de Armas’ relationship in May.
“It’s low-key, still new and in the early stages,” the insider exclusively told Us at the time. “Their romance is definitely on the down-low.”
According to the source, Cruise and de Armas met through Hollywood circles in recent years, and their mutual friend Penélope Cruz — who dated Cruise from 2001 to 2004 and starred with de Armas in 2019’s Wasp Network — “raved” about de Armas to Cruise, giving her stamp of approval.
“Penélope put in a good word for her both personally and professionally,” the insider added.
As for how their romance blossomed, the source shared that de Armas met with Cruise in February to discuss work before their “relationship developed.”
Cruise was “super smitten” with de Armas, which “developed into feelings” between the two, the insider told Us.
“They’ve gone out on some dates, and it’s very low-key,” the source said at the time. “It’s in the early stages, and he’s been courting her.”
While Cruise was “really into her” — a feeling that de Armas reciprocated — she was “more cautious” about the burgeoning romance.
“She isn’t looking for anything to move too fast,” the insider revealed. “She’s taking it really slow.”
Cruise and de Armas planned to keep their relationship “very private” in an effort to protect themselves from “the intense media scrutiny.”
In fact, Cruise’s superstar status was one of the reasons de Armas was “unsure” their connection could translate into a long-term romance.
“She doesn’t like the public attention,” the source told Us, adding that her tendency to maintain privacy in her personal life was “one of the things Tom likes about her.”
Later that month, both de Armas and Cruise emphasized their professional relationship in separate interviews.
“It’s so much fun, and we’re definitely working on a lot of things,” she said on Good Morning America in May. “Not just one, but a few projects with Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie and, of course, Tom. I’m so excited.”
Meanwhile, Cruise complimented de Armas’ movie Ballerina, telling reporters that the film “kicks ass” before adding, “You’re gonna love it.”
The following month, de Armas reacted to Cruise’s praise.
“You know what, he supports every movie. He really wants the industry and cinema to do well and [wants] people going to the theaters,” she told Variety in June. “We’re working together, so he got to see Ballerina, and he actually really liked it. He loved the John Wick [franchise].”
She continued, “It is very special that someone like him is supporting [Ballerina]. It is really special, in general, to have other actors and people supporting each other. We can do well all together.”
Later that month, Cruise and de Armas were spotted vacationing together on a luxury yacht near Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain, in the Mediterranean.
In July, the pair attended an Oasis concert in London and showed PDA as they held hands during an outing in Woodstock, Vermont, where de Armas owns a home.
Prior to Cruise’s relationship with de Armas, he was married to Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990, Nicole Kidman from 1990 to 2001 and Katie Holmes from 2006 to 2012. Cruise shares daughter Isabella, 32, and son Connor, 30, with Kidman and daughter Suri, 19, with Holmes.
De Armas, for her part, was married to Spanish actor Marc Clotet from 2011 to 2013. She notably dated Ben Affleck from 2020 to 2021 and was previously linked to Paul Boukadakis and Manuel Anido Cuesta.
