When speaking on the Johnny Pro Show, Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart made a controversial and unexpected claim while discussing the hostility that occurred within the WWF locker room between Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels, prefacing that the two had a bond that went further professionally and saying they had been involved romantically during the Attitude Era.
Hart went on to reminisce on the moment, stating that he saw Michaels ‘lose his smile’, implying that he saw his demeanour change that day, elaborating on how he and The Undertaker were watching the incident on a monitor. After Michaels performed a backflip, Hart saw a tear run down his face, spiking his hunches about the dynamic between Michaels and McMahon.
Hart has always been a controversial figure within the WWE scene, with plenty of people criticising him for some of his opinions and takes on the company, but his latest allegations seem the most farfetched, even by his standards.
What Bret Hart Said About Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon
“I think there’s more going on here between these two guys,” Hart said.
“Honestly… I think that Shawn and Vince were sleeping with each other. I’m being dead honest. I think I’m very close to the truth here. Shawn and Vince were lovers… I got caught between two lovers, and I got shafted and screwed over, and Shawn was so envious and jealous of my position that he finally had to sleep with Vince to get it.”
Hart would go on to conclude the interview by discussing the infamous Montreal Screwjob, saying that he confronted McMahon in the locker room, landing an uppercut and knocking him unconscious. This would also lead to Hart losing his championship, and him spitting in McMahon’s face before leaving the company.
Jim Ross Responds to Bret Hart’s Accusations
When listening to Hart’s comments about how he “got caught between two lovers” in regards to Michaels and McMahon, Ross was left amused, but he would go on to say that this was Hart trying to gain some media traction and generate conversation.
“That’s great. That’s hilarious. Bret knows how to push the buttons, man. That’s all he’s doing. It’s all he’s doing. And it’s working because we’re talking about it among others.”
JR was then further pressed on Hart’s claims, to which he responded by saying: “That’s b*******. Shawn in that era, at that point in that time, he was in a different mindset. He was a different guy. I don’t think he believes what he just said. I think he just stirred [c*** up].”
How Vince McMahon Would Feel About Bret Hart’s Comments
“Well, in front of people, they’ll try to blow it off like it means nothing, because it’s just a bitter guy trying to stir the s***. And that’s what I would think. But privately, it’ll p*** him off a little bit, and he’ll internalise he’ll be angry, but he won’t, I don’t think he’ll publicly, publicly show it, or say anything about it.”
